2nd Annual -  Iron Thistle "Scottish Heritage Festival and Highland Games"  March 28 & 29, '08, is over, but by no means, not forgotten.  It was lots of work, lots planning, but very, very, rewarding.

WOW!  WOW!   WOW!  WHAT A FESTIVAL WE HAD!---  Hope everyone had a great time.  Very soon, we'll be starting on the planning stages for the '09 Festival.

We had a chance to see some of the best Athletic Games, hear some enlightening Genealogy research training, eat some of the best traditional Celtic food, and visit some of the finest Vendors of Celtic items and Clans than anywhere in the state.   Hope you got to hear and see the non-stop entertainment of  Bagpipes, Celtic Bands and Celtic Dancers perform.  We got to see Clydesdale Horses, lots of other animals.   There was something enjoyable for every member of the family, and that's exactly what we wanted.  So start thinking and planning for the next Iron Thistle in 2009, in Yukon, Oklahoma.

A Wonderful Location, plenty of parking, and superb festival grounds.  Click on:  "Iron Thistle Festival Site"  for an area map of the festival grounds.   The Kirkpatrick Historical Park in Yukon, OK., is right off I-40 at Garth Brooks Blvd. & Vandament Ave.

We had several Celtic Bands, Pipers and Pipe Bands, several Food Vendors and lots of Clan tents.  We had Westie Dogs, Clydesdale horses, and all day Highland Athletic Games.  There was a great Link to the Festival Area and Events Map, identifying where the various Events would take place.    You could View and Download copies of the Festival Posters which are put up around the city.    You could also take advantage of the great offer provided by the Festival Host Hotel in Yukon, OK.

Here's another event sponsored by U.S.C.O., where the Athletics group participated.

Here are a few photos from our May 2006 "Hawaiian Style" Scottish Picnic held at Earlywine Park in OKC.  The Heavy Athletics group gave a demonstration of the techniques required for the heavy athletics games competition.
